Variable Defense

Sun Jan 16, 2005 11:19 pm

Since IDB is down right now, can anyone give me a link to an cached version of the guide? Or just briefly explain to me here?

Well, here's the simple version.
There are three different amounts of defense the shield will do.
Let's say there was a shield that could block 1, 3, or 6 fire icons.

If your defense is less than your opponents strength boost, you'll block only 1.

If the defense boost of your pet is equal to the strength boost of the opponent's pet (Or the 1-Player Challenger), then you'll block 3.

If your defense boost is greater than your opponent's strength boost, it will block 6.

*sigh* This may sound stupid, but is there any way to know what you're oppoment's strenth boost is? Or is it their "difficulty" number?

It's usually their difficulty level.
For example, a difficulty 75 opponent would be significantly easier than an 85 difficulty one.

Are you sure this is how it works? I do think it works like this: For a specific defence boost, you will block 1 damage per icon. The next defence boost, you block 1.5 hp damage per icon it blocks. And so on and so forth.

Yes, but i'm referring to the icons.
You can block six icons, but the rest defends on your defense boost.
So, if you have the 85 defense boost, you'll block 6x3.
You'd be blocking 18 damage, not icons.

... :o so wrong...

what matters is the standard def of a def weapon
so if the standard def icon is 3, it will block 3 * your def boost damage, and can't block more than what your opponent does to you (ie if your opponent does 1 damage, and you're supposed to block 5 damage, you only block 1 damage)

the displayed icon will vary, depends on who click first, and depends on your def boost and your opponent str boost ratio.

so whoever click second the formula of icon shown is this :
blocked icon shown = standard def * your def boost / your opp str boost
