Ad Blockers & Internet Explorer

Mon Dec 20, 2004 8:34 am

Does anyone know of any free banner ad blockers for the Internet Explorer browser? A fellow guild member who has been part of Neopets for more than 4 years is having to drastically reduce the amount of time spent on the site due to the banner ads. She has multiple sclerosis, and the banner ads at the top of the page are really causing havoc with her vision. I'd like to help her find a free downloadable program, like AdBlock, that works with IE. Thanks for your help! :)

This was posted in another thread. It works perfectly, no programs needed.

Save as a .css file and be sure it's somewhere you remember. (That's the most important.) I saved mine as neopets.css.

Next, open up IE. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Accessibility. Under "user style sheet", check off "Format documents using my style sheet." Next, Browse for your saved file. Click "OK". "OK" again, and then go to a Neopets page. It should disappear.

I found this method in the Neocolours forum. (But I saw it such a long time ago, the above is in my own words) Though the user who posted it has escaped my mind at the moment...

Cranberry, thank you so much for responding so quickly! I'll pass on this information to my friend. We've all missed her so much on our guild board over at Neo; hopefully she'll be able to rejoin us now. Thanks!!

No problem! :) I'd also like to thank winter for posting that tip in the first place -- it works so well and is easy to do.

Cranberry you are a lifesaver! 0:) Winter too, I could kiss you both!<3

This is the first time I've seen away to block the ads in Explorer. I just did it and your right it works perfectly and it doesn't seem like it could harm your computer in any way. Hmm....It doesn't block the sidebar ad, but I was living with that for years, so not a big deal. I wonder if there is a way to block that as well though?

I've been using Mozilla Firefox but it's so much slower the IE. I am a hardcore restocker and I need as much speed as possible. Now I've got it again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

It's the images that load slow on my Moxilla Firefox. The picture code on the haggle screen in particular is very slow to load. Half of the time it doesn't even load the correct picture so I have to click twice. That never happens to me on IE.

Ditto! :)

I have no clue why I didn't try this earlier... I thought it was going to be a lot more complicated than it actually was.

Code works like a charm :) Thanks.

Also, if you have IE, and use Windows Update, it includes an IE Popup blocker, its quite nice :)

Glad to see you're all enjoying the code :)

And yes. Service Pack 2 includes an IE pop-up blocker (and it blocks some other things as well, like malicious scripts)

It doesn't seem to have worked for me...I followed all the instructions to a T, but I'm still getting banner ads.
