Does anyone know what the first item neopets ever retired was.

Interesting question. I am doing a bit of research because you have gotten me intrigued. So far, the earliest I have found June 26, 2002 when the stone PB was retired.
Correction: I got this from the January 7th and 8th, 2002 news: They are changing the Glass Paint Brush and all pets that are now painted Glass will be the first pets ever to be painted Tyrannian AND... They have retired four Magical Paint Brushes and they will never be given out as random events again! They are Electric Blue Paint Brush, Lost Desert Paint Brush, Scritchy Sketchy Paint Brush and the Speckled Paint Brush.
Correction again: According to the news for September 27, 2001, some hidden tower items were retired--but I cannot figure out the names of the specific items.

I believe a couple of the Battledecks were among the first HT items to be retired...
Edit; There's also the elusive Fish Negg...
AND the Baby Negg... though it's arguable whether that counts since there was only ever one of those... (that was legitimate neways).

I tend to get "Retired" items about once a month....from random events and other stuff.

If you check the paint brush, it says "Retired rarity 180" in its description. Perhaps, getting it from the Fruit Machine isn't the same as getting from a Random Event. Or maybe Neopets forgot.

That's likely. Icy Neggs still seem to be coming in despite their retirement.

Wasnt the battleglogem (or whatever its called) retired a long time ago? I think there are lots more items retired before those paintbrushes, some of which are literally extinct.

How can you get a faerie paint brush if its retired besides auctions, trading posts etc? I really need them and 750k is too much!
