Well.. well a guy named Ken got sued when he was 15/16 years old, and guess who sued him Neo, they sued him at when he had no money.
AMZ says that Neo steals there idea? Hmmm. This is the story I got off the news from about a month ago:
Aftermath Entertainment Network
Okay, I don't care if I get sued over this, I'm not going to shut up just because I'm a poor 18 year old college student.
A few of you have probably seen the new Portal and Toolbar features on that other online game by now, yes the largest orange one They haven't released them yet, I'm guessing that they'll probably be out in a few days, but they're testing out something that looks exactly like Amz's Homepage (which can be seen in their /portal/ folder) and they're testing out a browser Toolbar like the one that Amz tried out.. Thanks Oberst for showing me this
But seriously, I'm tired of that site taking ideas from other sites. Their new webmail idea isn't new, other online games have tried that. And how convenient of them to use a modifiable Portal page right after we get rid of ours so that it's less likely for people to clue in where they've seen it before Especially since their Portal has site news, real world news, a list of random games at the bottom, a poll section on the bottom, Quick Links and a Site Stats section! Wow, seems just like our last homepage layout Nice to see that they made it even better, it really helps when you have something else to look at so that you know how to make it better
Reminds me of when they first found out about Amz, when they froze anyone who mentioned it, when Amz only had one game, Tug of War. Surprise surprise, about a week after they discovered us, they announced that they were going to start working on their own Tug of War game I love their Double or Nothing game as well, I wonder where they got that idea
Now at first I thought that maybe they got their Portal idea from another site, since those have been around in other places that aren't online games, but have you seen their new Toolbar? Just like something we tried out a couple months ago but with their name on it
Funny as well how their largest adventure game was just a modified and more elaborate version of something that we tried out a long time ago called the Communities
All this coming from a site that sent letters to me when I was 15 or 16 to try to scare me into shutting down their competitor, Amz, by threatening to sue me because I had things like a points system, stats for my characters, and a tiger character Oh and I just loved how they also accused me of stealing Tug of War Lovely how they didn't respond back to me after I pointed a few things out But of course, there's not much I can do about it, I'm poor, so I guess we'll just let them walk all over me and the world So many people hate them already I hear that they sold their company out to business people and now they hate working on it, but they have to anyways, nice
Isn't the world a horrible place?

What's that guy's problem?
Game ideas get copied all the time.... or else everyone would have very few games because they couldn't copy ideas...
Just look at Tetris....

That's really horrible. Any idea as to where I can find this on the Aftermath website?

I think the point of it was that Neopets sued a kid because they claimed his stuff was a rip off of theirs and he's claiming that they stole it from HIM.
Yeah, games do, but usually with permission from the original creator/publisher, due to some pretty off the wall thing called Copyright, which protects intellectual material from being ripped off. Problem with Copyright laws is that if you make even a slight change, it becomes a new work.

Which is probably why Neopets isn't yelled at for some of their games. I've seen plenty of places that had their games first, but on Neopets there's that one, little change that makes it new. I doubt there is any truely original games on that site.

From what I gather, AMZ was online beore Neopets was and when neopets opened, they had either copied a lot of the stuff or it was... a whole lot of coincidences...
I do recall neopets banning anyone mentioning AMZ in the chats etc however... strange.

I used to go there a lot, but haven't been back in a while. I thought it was really fun.
I can see why this person is upset. I noticed the Tug of War game on AMZ first as well. I had trouble with it there, so I didn't want to play it when it later came out on Neo.
Even that game idea wasn't original. I've seen it other places, but that doesn't mean they copied it. It just means people had similiar ideas. Copyright does make a difference. Say Neo did take their game idea. If they didn't have it copyrighted and Neo copyrighted it first, then it belongs to Neo and they are screwed out.

Yeah, another nice loop hole in the Justice System.. That nice little circled c makes a huge difference in who gets the money in a lawsuit. I do remember hearing mention of that site a while back, but never went there for some odd reason.
