Nintendo Wii - November 19th - $250

Thu Sep 14, 2006 2:37 pm

The last Wii discussion was back in May, so I decided to make a new topic.

Anyways, it's official. The Nintendo Wii will be launched in the US on November 19th, for $250. In the box will be the console, the Wiimote, the nunchuck attatchment, the cables, and the sensor bar. Wii Sports will also be packaged with it.

I'm a little disappointed that there's only one controller, but it's not like it'll keep me from buying the console. And it's only coming out in white, no black. I kinda wanted black.

And for anyone who thinks $250 is too much, just think of it as a $200 console with a $50 game included. Besides, $250 is A LOT cheaper than the PS3's $600.

That's good, at least the price is confirmed, though I'm not liking the white at all (terrible colour for electronics). :\ They should have stuck wtih black.

I don't think white is a terrible color for electronics. Sure, it can show dirt easily, but the iPod's white, and it's doing fine. And speaking of the iPod, the white they used looks like the white Apple uses (if that makes any sense; and no, I'm not suggesting anything).

I hope I can get it for Christmas. :P

ive been savin up for months and got enough to buy it so i am skippin school and goin at midnight nov 18th and waitin that whole day at their electronics

If I wasn't a poor college student, I'd probably buy it. I guess I'll wait until Christmas instead.

But still, that's a good price. Hopefully it'll sell like something considerably better than hotcakes.

As it is, Nintendo is expecting to sell (ship?) 4 million by the end of this year so I say it might be a good launch for it

I've been looking through some other forums on it and came across a few more details

- The Wii itself is region free, region lock is an optional "switch" for developers (it's unknown if import GC games will play or not)
- First party games will be $49.99
- As far as the WiiConnect (Virtual Console) games: NES/Famicom games are 500 Wiipoints [WP] ($5), SNES/Super Famicom are 800 WP ($8 ), N64 are 1000 WP ($10).

I wasn't talking about sales, I just think white is a terrible colour for electronics (and not all iPods are white, many people have black, and other colours). The colour isn't going to affect sales.

I'm hoping to have enough for it on it's launch week.

Oh yeah, the WiiPoints thing brought up something that I don't particularly like... The Wii has both Ethernet and WiFi, but to surf the web you have to use Opera, and in order to get Opera on the Wii you have to buy it with WiiPoints.

Riiight.

Actually according to 1up, it's a free download until June 2007. I'd say it's in the same vein as the Opera Browser they have for DS, I would figure since it's a "custom" version of the application it wouldn't be as free as its desktop cousin. Like WebTV of old, I'd settle for using my computer to access the net. haha

what are wii points? and how do you earn them?

Thu Sep 14, 2006 11:44 pm

$250 is not bad for the console, but $50 for one game? I think not.

As it is that's the right price range compared to the current gen (usually it's in the 39.99 - 59.99 depending on the format so it's not that far off)

They're basically points you pruchase as you go (much like XboxLive Arcade), roughly 100 WiiPoints= $1 USD

That is so so sooooo cool! I just loaded a SNES emulator onto my PS2, and have been loving it... but the graphics and sound are a bit jumpy occasionally. I imagine the WiiConnect, being an official product, would probably be a lot better! I can't wait! :D

Ooh, cool =D It'd be nice if the NES and SNES games were like $3 and $7 instead. xD But the Virtual Console is a really great idea. Oh, and what about the Sega Genesis games? :/ Maybe now I could get more points in the video game music quiz. xD

I think if I got a Wii really soon after the launch game, the first game I get would be Trauma Center Wii. :3

Technically, that's the same amount in price as most game this generation already are, nothing new.

I would definitely spend most of my time playing the olden games, though... most of the games I'd want to play would be on the Genesis. Oh well. :\

*can still play 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' on the Wii... possibly*
