Last week, I shot my arm up really fast in dance, heard a big CRACK and couldn't straighten my elbow. The pain was agony, it really, really hurt and it's now become a reoccuring problem. Yesterday, it cracked out of place 4 times. It happened at work and I almost fainted so they sent me to hospital. At the hospital, they said it looked like cartilage damage but they couldn't treat it immediately as it was long-term damage. They said I had to go to my doctor to get a referral to see an orthopaedic specialist.

I went to my doctor and saw a locum who said that he was going to take what I said with a "pinch of salt". He said it was nothing more than a sprain and sent me away with mild painkillers. So why is my arm sticking out at this odd angle?! I'm so angry because I'm in a lot of pain and I'm fed up of being fobbed off. I can't go back to work until it's sorted because I have to lift heavy boxes and picking them up only cracks my elbow.

I really need a hug. :(

P.S. On a slightly lighter note, my friends managed to convince me that the potassium in bananas would ease the pain in my elbow and I actually let them rub banana on it. That's something I won't live down in a hurry....

::hugs:: Not much I can say, but I hope you can get the doctor to actually do something, and it gets better soon. =(

Yow, that's not good at all. You really need to see a doctor that will actually help you. If it's not a sprain, it might be something more serious. I'd get a second opinion because that doesn't sound much like a simple sprain to me. :\ Just reading that... makes my arm hurt.

I don't think it's a sprain at all. I'm not a doctor, but it sounds very painful. :( *hugs* But I hope it's not as serious as it seems and that you heal quickly. Maybe rubbing some more bananas on it will work! (Kidding, kidding.) Just try to take it easy and not move it an unnessacary amount. I'll be wishing for a fast healing.

It sounds like it could be a bit dislocated, especially if it's off at a weird angle like you said it is. Just try not to move any part of your arm and put ice against it.

I don't think it's dislocated because I can move it. Somethings cracking out of place though!

Also, bananas soften your skin! Honestly, I'm not joking. The skin around my elbow used to be really rough and dry but now it's soft and smooth. Seems like I may have hit upon something....

Hmm... yes, Twinkle... your a genius! You can put bananas up for market as skin softeners! Now, how to change it so that it doesn't look like bananas... :D

Poor Twinkle... that definately doesn't sound like a sprain. Where is it popping? Exactly at the elbow, or a little above it, just out of curiousity?

*hugs you extra super tightly being careful of your arm*

I'd get a second opinion seriously. That just doesn't sound right to me at all :(

Eowyn alter-ego: Wouch! They UNDERestimate injuries now? smurf. I coulda done with some underestimation, but nooo-oo, 'stay abed for ten days yet'... 'course, That was how I met Faramir, but still.

Hrrrm, I did something like that to my jaw last year, now it dislocates itself about five times an hour... no cartilage breakage though, I think it's just a joint slip, doesn't even hurt anymore when it does it. But you! That's really painful. I've almost fainted, sure, but for totally different reasons... problem is lotsa doctors are so used to dealing with one kind of injury they can't think of any others... I HATE the way people can call themselves doctors when all they do is say "go to this guy".

Twinkle.
Make an appointment to see your doctor but for the love of christ see your proper GP, NOT a locum.
I also have experience with useless GPs.
Actually, demand that your GP refer you. Get your parents to demand. Just make sure it happens. It took a lot of work to get my GP to finally stop just giving me bloody ibuprofen and give me proper painkillers and a physiotherapy referral for my back. Unfortunately, physio did nothing and I had to go see an osteopath privately. Keep at it.

*hugs* That sounds reallllllly sore =(

I'd do what the others suggested, and get a second opinion. Doesn't sound like your doctor did much o_O

I'm going to my usual doctor first thing tomorrow thank God. Hopefully he'll get me a sick note for work so I won't get fired. I'll let you know what happens.

I told my boyfriend and he was like "Oh my God! Are you okay? Is it in place? You're not going to faint are you?" *BIG hug* *CRACK* "SORRYSORRYSORRYSORRYSORRYSORRY!!!!!"

Oops...

Look on the bright side - you've discovered a gold mine in a squished banana!

After 3 separate trips to the hospital and 2 doctor visits, I'm FINALLY being referred to a specialist. It took me to collapse at school from the pain but I got there in the end. We've got private medical insurance (yay for my dad's company!) so it won't take me too long to be treated. Plus, I've got a sick note for work. :D
