I think the biggest thing to be worried about with that age group, is accidental and embarassing boy things that might occur.

In high school we had girls and boys on the wrestling team, we all did the same drills but the girls would only wrestle other girls in their weight class. I'm not sure about jr high though, because we didn't have a team like that..

Depends on the person, really. I personally can't imagine 3/4ths of the males at my school (12-14) being able to wrestle a girl without being immature about it.

I think 12-14 is young. Maybe in high school...?

Skizzy- the problem is that you can harp on all you like about gender equality, it's not sexism that means girls and boys shouldn't wrestle each other.

"Emotionally ready" meaning they won't cry if the girl beats them? Yes, they should be. If they're not then that's honestly really sad. When I was at my friend's wrestling tournament the other day, some of the girls looked like they could've snapped a guy in half, so I don't think people should be worried about the girls getting hurt.

Yeah, sure why not?

Like, people shouldn't be not able to do something just because of their gender.

Might as well. I know in high school some of the guys had to wrestle girls. Though some guys let girls win, since they do not want to see like the dude that beats up on a girl. But it should not matter.
I agree with the person that stated, it is never too early should show gender equality.

I think so. The only reason I can see why I might hesitate to answer is definetley anything embaressing happening. :P But, still. I would love to see a guy getting all pumped up for a match and then being beaten in seconds by a girl. ^_^

Definately yes. If a girl wants to wrestle a boy, she should be able to.

what do you mean, it's not sexism? "girls and boys shouldn't wrestle each other" sounds like a sexist statement to me.

A simple fact that males are stronger than females. By saying that I'm not being discriminatory, I'm stating a fact.
Men are also faster than women, which is why in athletics events and suchlike there are separate races for men and women. If girls/boys wrestled, girls would never win (going on averages, obviously you have to generalise, but you can't take this case by case, there must be a set rule for this kind of thing or you run into all sorts of problems).

I have such a problem with all these women who immediately jump on something you say for being sexist. If I was being sexist I'd say 'girls shouldn't wrestle because they're weak' or 'girls shouldn't wrestle boys and i'm not basing this on any sort of fact but merely on the fact i think boys are superior to girls'. Yeesh, feminism going off the scale.

Although it doesn't apply so much when you're younger, it wouldn't be fair at all to have girls and boys wrestling in the same categories competitively.

It also honestly is more dangerous for the girl, as a rule.

Perhaps so, but unfortunately in sports you HAVE TO generalise. It's safer for those involved to assume that in general the girl will get hurt, than to assume they will all be completely fairly matched and them get very hurt.
Also, sure, they could've snapped a guy in half, but a guy wrestler? Hm.

When I was younger we had a girl in the rugby squad, When we were training none of us would tackle, for one thing, we didnt want to hurt her, we did and I still have the inability to hit a girl or cause potential harm, my problem, not the girls of course, And the other reason was, we didnt want to accidently touch... places where we shouldnt.

Sexist or not, Having a girl in a rugby team affected the game alot, so much so that many teams would not allow her to play against them, If its this bad in rugby, it can only be worse in Wrestling, which is a much more contact sport.

Hm. When this poll was first formed, I clicked yes. But I think I've changed my mind.

If it's an amateur wrestling league for like 3rd graders and younger, then I say that's a wonderful time for boy/girl wrestling, as at that age most boys still believe they are superior to girls (and vice versa), and wrestling against each other could prove that we're all really equal. However, as people get older, so do their bodies, and it'd be rather awkward for a fifteen year old boy to wrestle a fifteen year old girl. I'm not trying to be sexist at all, because sexism bugs the Hell out of me, and I've even started to turn away from my religion because of the sexist aspects. However, that's not the topic right now and can be discussed another day.

So, all in all, here's my answer:

3rd grade and younger: Dear God, yes.
Older than 3rd grade: Dear God, no.
