After visiting hawaii in 2001 I was curious about the language and started learning some. I neglected it for awhile and forgot alot of it...but I can do some pretty basic stuff. nothing too hard or flashy lol.
No, that's pretty awesome. I'm really glad that there are people outside of this rock who are interested, because the culture really needs a boost sometimes.

I took four years of high-school French, was top of my class for the latter two years, and barely remember a blessed scrap of it. I heard the college manner of teaching foreign languages is much more effective, so I'm enrolled for Arabic next semester.

I've had four years of french and a semester of Japanese. :P My mom wants me to take Spanish too but I don't think I'll be able to remember much of it, it'll probably blend in with the other languages.

I've taken Spanish for...6 years combined. Throw me in Guatemala for a month, and now I'm pretty much fluent. I also am conversational in Kaqchikel Mayan...also found in Guatemala.

I have a language to-do list:
-Japanese (my bf volunteered to teach me)
-French
-Italian
-German

I speak fluently both Finnish and Swedish, the latter one being my mother tongue (although I sometimes feel I speak Finnish more fluently). Because of my knowledge in Swedish, I almost completely understand Norwegian, as those two are quite alike. Therefore, I haven't got much problems understanding Latvian either, due to my knowledge in Finnish.

I've read some French, Russian and Japanese in school, but I've forgotten most of it, which bugs me a bit. I really would like to learn Japanese throughly and without any pauses, but that's easier said than done.

My current English, as strong as it seems (or does it? :P), is much thanks to school, computer games and Internet. Although I'm much more comfortable writing or reading English than speaking it. I don't think I've had the need to speak it more than 2-3 times per year, and then only because of tourists asking directions or something like that. In longer conversations, I may have problems to articulate myself and sometimes I even forget the easiest words, just because of a slight nervousness.

I could speak near fluent arabic since I lived in the middle east for my whole life, but really I wish I concentrated more in those arbic lessons at school

I also speak some dodgy french and terrible tagalog(the language of the philippines)

Since Im now living in Hawaii, Im planning on learning the language here and also some japanese and chinese. Hopefully if I move to New Zealand I could learn to speak some Maori. I also am beginning to learn some Russian and Hungarian as two coaches I have trained with would regularly speak in their native tongues sand it really did interest me.
My dad began to teach me some nepalese and also some swahili. He grew up in Kenya as a boy and went into the army in Nepal.

Ye........I'm pretty much a language freak even though I dont consider myself to be all that good.
