You can't smell the leather at all in Two Monsters. Well, I can't anyway :P AND GET INFERNO DOITDOIT.

Azathoth (Picnic in Arkham)
Azathoth is the blind, idiot god who sits on a black throne at the center of Chaos. His scent is high-pitched and screeching, both impenetrably dark and searingly bright with the clarity of madness: tangerine, saffron, vetiver, black amber and cedarwood.

This one's quite hard to describe, the tangerine's very clear and there's a bit of earthyness (probably the cedarwood and vetiver) hiding under it. It's really good!

R'lyeh (Picnic in Arkham)
The sunken city of the Great God Cthulhu. A hellishly dark aquatic scent, evocative of fathomless oceanic deeps, the mysteries of madness buried under crushing black waters, and the brooding eternal evil that lies beneath the waves.

Rofl. Well, uh. It definitely smells evil. And watery. But like some said on a review, it's like evil grapefruit or something o_0
On skin: GRAPEFRUUUIIIITTT. EVIL GRAPEFRUIT LULZ.

Satan and Death with Sin Intervening Opoponax, benzoin, orange blossom, mahogany, karakarounde, white tea and vetiver.

Can I just say first: What kind of a name IS that? I always mix up the words XD Anyway. It smells lemony and tangy but dark and woody. And grassy. It's... interesting.

[/kindafailreview]

Edit: Two Monsters is smelling like... toffee? Fruity toffee? o_0

I really like the look of this site, and I got paid yesterday *is tempted*
I'm just worried about buying one and not liking it.... I think I'll read the reviews of most of them.
But hey, you might know one personally that would be good. I like fruity/sweet smells. I like the smell of vanilla but I don't think I want to smell distinctly like a cake (people might eat me).
I really do think I'll get something from here, I like the idea of having a signature smell that no-one else (that I know) will have :D

Um, Jas? If you do get Inferno, be careful with it XD I put some on the back of my neck AND IT HURTS :( But it's still awesome.

My best suggestion is to just read through the reviews. Then you can usually hear good and bad things about the scents and get a feel for what they really smell like. :)

Some suggestions from what I've tried:

Snake Oil (Ars Amatoria)
A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla.

Dana O'Shee (Bewitching Brews)
milk, honey and sweet grains

Xanthe, the Weeping Clown (Carnaval Diabolique)
Guava, orange peel, white pepper, spun sugar and apple blossom.

Zarita, the Doll Girl (Carnaval Diabolique)
white carnation, iris, orange blossom, and sugared cream.

Kitsune-Tsuki (Diabolus)
Asian plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine and white musk.

Drink Me (Mad Tea Party)
cherry-tart, custard, pineapple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast

Eat Me (Mad Tea Party)
Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants

Cockaigne (Wanderlust)
milk and honey, sweet cakes and wine.

If you like vanilla, I would definitely go for Snail Oil. It's so delicious. It's one of my new favorites. :) Dana O'Shee is pretty good. It smells like oatmeal and honey. Xanthe has a sweet, fruity scent. Zarita smells like an orange creamsicle. Kitsune-Tsuki has a really pretty, soft, fruity flower scent. Drink Me smells like a delicious dessert, somewhat cakey. Eat Me reminds me of these berry cookies my husband's family makes. Cockaigne smells like a yummy dessert.

Those are all General Catalog. Sorry for the short summaries, but I haven't worn some in a bit, so I'm going off memory. :)

I read that in the reviews. I think I still might chance it, though. XD Worst case, I could always use it in a scent locket or as a room scent. :)

----------------------------

On another note, the big Yule update was just posted along with Marchen (the Fairy Tale section) going live *and* a limited edition series based on Wind in the Willows. So many new scents. I've got to remember to get any Halloweenies I was interested in because they're coming down next month before getting distracted by all the new smellies. <3

Some new scents from the update I'm interested in:

Prunella (Marchen: Prunella)
Ripe purple plums, wildflowers, and cream.

The Miller's Daughter (Marchen: Rumpelstilzchen)
Spun gold, tear-soaked straw, and rose-infused amber.

Serpants with Glittering Eyes and Forkey Tongues (Marchen: The Sparrow with the Slit Tongue)
Serpentine green herbs, glistening red currant, sparkling yellow lemon rind, green musk, lime, and snakeskin.

Butter Rum Cookie (Yule)
A boozy addition to the devil's bake sale! Rum-soaked butter cookies, crusted with sugar, soaked in almond and garnished with orange rind.

Gelt (Yule)
A bounty of chocolate coins! Dry cocoa and golden amber!

Lick It Like You Mean It (Yule)
Peppermint candy cane with an extra jolt of sugar.

Lines Written Among the Euganean Hills (Yule)
Skin musk, white sandalwood, balsam fir, frozen black berries, cedar, winter rose, and white amber.

Rose Red 2008 (Yule)
The perfected winter rose, dew covered and freshly cut.

Snow Bunny 2008 (Yule)
Soft white powder snow with a touch of youthful girlie perfume.

Sugar Cookie 2008 (Yule)
Affectionately nicknamed 'The Devil's Bake Sale'.

All They Had Seen, and All They Had Lost (The Wind in the Willows)
Mist and dewy roses, aspen leaves, and translucent yellow blossoms.

The Gaoler's Daughter (The Wind in the Willows)
Gardenia, neroli, and white peach with vanilla amber, cream, and honey.

You know, just a couple scents. :P I bought Snow White last year and I really liked it, but I don't think I need more this year. I've heard a lot of praise for Rose Red, so I should probably try it. The Marchen are General Catalog, so at least I can wait a bit on them and concentrate on the limited editions. I'm excited to see what stories/scents will be added in the future. :3

So Jas has finally convinced me to try some things from this site :) I just ordered my first set of six imp's ears. I can't wait until they get here! :D Here's what I ordered:

The Dormouse (From Mad Tea Party collection)
A dizzying eddy of four teas brushed with light herbs and a breath of peony.

Eat Me (From Mad Tea Party collection)
Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.

The Lion (From Mad Tea Party collection)
The dry, glorious warmth of the Savannah. A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious.

Mouse's Long and Sad Tale (From Mad Tea Party collection)
Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood.

Tiger Lily (From Mad Tea Party collection)
A feisty bouquet of golden, warm, gently honeyed lilies.

Dana O'Shee (From Bewitching Brews collection)
Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains...

Mmmm. I decided to experiment with my Halloween scent this year. I had an idea I wanted to try and I'm very glad I did. :3

I layered

Gingerbread Poppet (Limited Edition, Yuletide 2007)
Warm, cozy gingerbread spiced with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon.

with

Jack (Bewitching Brews)
true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove

and wow, it's so delicious. <3 It's like spicy pumpkin cookies. <3 Now I just need to find a recipe to match . . . Ha! :)

It's so fantastic, I just had to share this with everyone. XD

Mmm... I'm guessing BPAL are probably among the best scents in the world. That being said, though, I was all ready and set to order, and decided to hold off at the last moment. The scents are just too sophisticated, in my opinion, for someone who has no experience in scents whatsoever. So I decided to spent the coming year leading up to my birthday buying single notes and learning to recognize and distinguish them, so I my decision when I actually order will have been somewhat better considered.

I've just received my order today! Boy do they all smell good! I got two free imps as well :)

Harlot (From Ars Amatoria collection)
Somalian rose, Moroccan rose and Bulgar rose with a sultry dribble of cinnamon.

Snake Oil (From Ars Amatoria collection)
A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla.

Does anyone know how long the shipping takes? I've purchased one for my sister (we live in Canada mind you) today, so I was wondering if it would be here for Christmas?

I've read conflicting posts on the BPAL forum which have people stating they received their order in 6 days (and they live in Australia) and some who took over 8 weeks (who lived in Canada). Does it vary?

It does vary. Basically, it depends on the size of your order and how many other people ordered at that time. Right now the orders are taking a bit longer because everyone is ordering for the Christmas rush. I just got the shipping notification for an order I placed on 11/15. If you watch the Click n Ship thread in the BPAL Chatter board on their forum, you can get an idea what date the orders are up to. :)

I hope yours comes in on time or, at least, isn't too late! :)
