Whats that? Christmas cheer you say?

I have none.
Why?

Because my home life is crap. I'm being laid off and my grades are .3 away from being high enough to apply for my MFA.
Right.

Christmas cheer...

Not this year.

I've had the blue piano playing elephant from star wars in my head for months.
I don't even know why, I've not seen Star wars in years.

Doo-do-do-do doo doo do do-do-do-do-do-do-doooo.

Can't say I've noticed carols around town, but that's largely due to my "La La la, I can't hear you" tactics.

*sobs*

THE CAROLS STARTED AT WORK TODAY.

It is likely that I will kill myself before Christmas Day.

We had 140 people for lunch today. THEY ATE SO MUCH. Even the chefs, who are used to this, were shocked. We did $6000 in revenue (although $2000 of that was alcohol, yay for getting smurf at lunch!) And the mess.. oh god.

I SWEAR IF MY EXTENDED FAMILY MAKES SUCH A MESS WHEN THEY COME AROUND FOR THE FAMILY CHRISTMAS, I WILL DISOWN THEM. ALL.

Why yes, I am going to go crazy with this happening 5 days a week for the next 3 weeks, why do you ask?

Christmas cheer with me died a looooooong time ago.
And this has pretty much been the worst year of my life so far.

Just be thankful you've got a job.

I really am sort of bitter about Christmas this year. I just can't help but feel all the crap we by for eachother and all that is just.. unneeded. I just feel like theres better use for money.

The happy feeling you get around the holidays is nice too, sure, but we should have that feeling all the time. D:

I'm in a down enough state to answer this with reckless abandon.

Some of us, like me, need all of the complaints on this thread to feel less lonely and depressed this time of year. I won't go into how far down I truly am at this point, but it is low and decreasing. A lot of the holiday-related goings on, even some of the commercial aspects, are some of the few things that occasionally put a smile on my face.

People going all out with more lights than in some countries always get me to stop and look. I even break my rules about conserving gas to go looking at them some times. Yeah, I live with a person that keeps them up year round too, but that only bugs me if they lights are the ones that blink, and they are set at epilepsy.

The 24/7 song stations are great. When I found one many Octobers ago, I listened for hours straight until they finally played Monster Mash. Around this time of year, I try and listen as much as possible. My mom even hunted down a local station that plays the music just because she knew it would brighten my obviously down spirit. I sing with almost all of the songs too. One time, my dogs ran from the room when 12 Days of Christmas came on and I joined in. I even have a Christmas song permanently in my regular playlists since I like it so much. As Kaylee would say, they make me feel shiny.

We had a person playing Santa on campus a couple days last week. One of my associates was commenting on that. I seriously said I would go get my picture with Santa because it would be fun. I would love to play Santa too. I have the perfect built and a good enough sense of humor to even joke around with any potential hecklers.

Giving gifts is probably my second favorite thing after all of the songs. This is the one time of year (aside from birthdays) that no one can tell me not to get them something. Getting stuff is okay, but the hunt to find something that your friends and family would like; the fun of gag gifts; just spending money on someone else finally are all great.

When you get into as bad a state I tend to get into quite often, all of the lovey-dovey commercials just feel like a stake through the heart. (Their volume makes it feel like you won't even last through a singe station break). I, for one, need this time of year and whether the feelings in anyone else are real or faked, just seeing it gets me to New Years. It is these little things like holiday fervor that keeps you reading my posts and not my obit.

Personally, I hate it.
All the lines in the shops and crazy traffic.

*walks into a shop, stares at the line and runs away*

The only part of it that's somewhat enjoyable are the holidays. Because then I get to stay home and only go out when it's really necessary. But then again, "Christmas TV" is annoying. And all the songs. Words cannot express how much I hate the songs.

Thank whoever for the internet - my only hope to sort of get away from it all for a while.

P.S. - New Years is a whole different thing though.
At least that's something we celebrate.

*hugs* I agree with you, especially the part above. I love gifting people anytime, but during the Christmas season people have a harder time turning down gifts because it's the season. I usually save up during the year so I can send presents to as many as I can. This year we're a bit tight on cash, which is depressing me, but as long as I can get cards and presents and whatever out, even though it wouldn't be as much as usual, it's good to me. My friends' gifts will probably have to wait until January to be sent, however, because even though I can afford the gifts, I'm not sure I can afford the shipping. XD

I'm only giving Five presents this year.
I'm related to four of them.
They are the only people in the world I care about now, and the one for a friend is requiring me to take a two hour Coach ride to Nottingham.

Given that I complain about going into town (A fifteen minute bus ride at worst) I think this shows some curious dedication to the cause.

Its going to be a meager christmas for me. I cant afford many gifts, which saddens me because I love to give them!

I don't get any of these newfangled 'holidays'. I may possibly have Xmas eve off, but that's solely because it's my rostered day off anyway.

I'm working Christmas Day though. For some reason, people actually want to come into a hotel, have a 3 or 4 hour long buffet lunch with drinks, and pay $125 a pop. Therefore, Alex is working. I'm demanding New Years off though.

Ah, the joys of working in the hotel industry.

I'm horrible at gift-giving. I never have any idea what someone might want, even if I know them well. I usually have to ask the person directly or his/her parents for ideas. I usually don't have to give gifts anyway, but I don't know what'll happen when I'm older, independent, and have more reason to do so...

This may make me sound like a bad person or something, but I never understood why most people prefer giving to receiving. I mean, getting stuff is fun! Even for people like me, who don't want anything, there's still a bit of a novelty to it. With giving, there's the stress of trying to think of something, then the worry that they won't like it, and of course money is an object for many people, as well as ability to get the gift in the first place...etc.

I work in a nursing home in activities, and we have tons of tapes and CDs. We dug out probably 15 Christmas song compilations, and my boss keeps rotating them. Theyre all completely traditional and old fashioned too, since thats what the old people like.

If we're playing a game, we have Christmas music on. If we're sitting in the office doing paperwork, its Christmas music. Our building has 6 different trees set up, and all the art on the walls is taped over with wrapping paper and made to look like gifts. We're soon going to be making various ornaments, we're constantly coloring Christmas pictures, and all our trivia games are filled with holiday questions. Im going to be Christmased out soon.

The old people really love it though, which is the entire point. They dont fake any holiday cheer, its nice.

That is great for what you do. I have spend the last 6 X-Mases (excluding last year because I was away) in a nursing home. The older people really tend to cheer me up. They just get me excited about hte holidays with them.
