School Uniforms

Tue Aug 03, 2004 11:56 pm

I'm on a hunt for good-looking school uniforms...and I have access to just about any store you guys could suggest for me to find some. I am looking for skirts, pants, and shirts...nothing else, really. It's just everything I find in these "back to school" stores are really awful. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Anything can be a school uniform. You have to give criteria of the sort of uniform you're looking for.

My uniform is very, very strict. We aren't allowed to wear sweaters, khaki and navy skirts and pants. No capris. All bottoms must have belt loops, all belt must be black or brown. All skirts must have a collar and must be white, dark green (blech), or blue. Shirts must be long enough to be tucked in. No high heels (although I got away with 3 inch heels last year)

I don't know, where would you normally shop? That would be a good place to start. I think that if you need to buy what they tell you, at least get something comfortable.

Wow, your school is very very strict! I don't really know were you can buy clothes, I think every shop will have at least one thing that you can buy.

So really more of a dress code than a uniform.

I'm a little shaky on what you're saying exactly
So like polo shirts or can you wear blouses?
Both of those are pretty common and can be found wherever preppy clothes are sold. Same with khakis (i'm sure i spelled that wrong.
Khakis are in at the moment though so that shouldn't be that hard. The classic preppy look is alwasy in for fall.

Basicaly what you should do is go to a very classic department store. You also might have to look in adult or petiet instead of teen. Again preppy stores are where you should be looking, the Gap for example is where I got my latest pair of khakis.

I'm not sure where to get a good khaki skirt though, or navy. Those kind of skirts arn't in right now, at least i don't think so. Again try the adult section,

I wouldn't worry to much. At the very least you'll be building a wardrobe with really good bones that will serve you well. I've been wishing for a more adult wardrobe lately

My brother's highschool had a similar dresscode and he never really had a problem with it. It definitly ended up making him a snappier dresser.]

Good luck

That's not strict :P

Here's mine:
Black skirt/black trousers
Belts must be black or brown or dark blue
White shirt, with a top button, fitted shirts not allowed (although we wear them anyway >_.)
Black and red diagonally striped tie(must be done up to top button, this rule is flouted contantly)
Black or brown shoes (not trainers, oops)
Black school blazer with school badge

Oh and err... 'No extreme hairstyles'

Thank god we can wear anything we like (except drug symbols, but they are just taken away from you if you wear anything like that), have any hairstyle etc.

I don't think there are any schools here in Finland that make the pupils wear uniforms.

Yea, I am loving all of the color ideas. Especially the flourescent jumpsuit. Me like. ;)

I think I've found two shops that are going to make my life in middle school bearable:

Abercrombie
Pac Sun

They have *SOME* nice stuff I could wear. It's just walking in those stores with my Mom and trying on the stuff I am dreading. Abercrombie, in my mall at least, has naked pictures of models everywhere. Pac Sun is for "punks". ._. I feel so left out. xD

Oh, and did I mention we also have to wear KILTS every Friday? *shudders* It gets worse. Next year they're making the dress code even more strict. There are going to be ankle-length kilty-skirts with Dragons all over them, and a hideous polo shirt with a huge dragon on the front.

I know, it's horrible.

The key to uniforms is finding a way to circumvent them. I have an actual uniform, not just a dress code, but we girls have figured out tons of ways to stretch the rules.

But yeah, stores like Abercrombie, Pac-Sun, Gap, all the preppy places are great to shop at for uniform stuff. The hot shirtless models and gorgeous salesguys at Abercrombie are only a bonus. Even department stores that sell Ralph Lauren, CK, etc. are good choices if you catch one of the back-to-school sales.

Ouch that really stinks. I know that kilts can be really warm, especially if you have to wear ankle length ones. And the dragon thing is just horrible. Is the dragon your mascot or something? Oh and do they make the guys were the same dragon kilts too? I would so laugh if they tried to do that at my school.

You might try looking for a uniform shop. They typically sell the various things you need. A place like Sears would probably have what you need as well.
