Michael Crichton dead at 66

Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:31 pm

"Jurassic Park" author and "ER" creator Michael Crichton died Tuesday at age 66, according to his Web site. The novelist passed away in Los Angeles after a private battle with cancer. His family said the death was unexpected.

"While the world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us — and entertained us all while doing so — his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," his family said on his site.

"He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget."

A private funeral service is planned.

Agreed. :(

He did a good job of keeping his illness private; I had no idea he was even sick.

*sigh*

It's very unfortunate that a great writer has passed on. He will be sorely missed :(

I hope he lived a happy life. He was a brilliant writer. I loved he works. We still have the Jurassic Park novels here. I can't remember what mum did with the others.

This is a sad day for geeks everywhere.

I had no idea he was even sick! Did his family know?

That was a dumb question, me.
