What kind of fireworks do you buy?

Mon Jul 02, 2007 7:38 pm

Hmm...this year I'm planning to spend about $200 on fireworks. I usually buy bottle rockets and roman candles (to have roman candle wars, of course). Oh yeah, and sparklers for the little kids.

What kind of fireworks do you like to buy?

They aren't allowed in my state...so everything is a covert operation here. Sure doesn't stop anyone.

I don't mess with them myself. I don't have the space, hehe. Fireworks indoors = bad idea (I know this b/c some idiots thought it would be a good idea to set off a roman candle in a dorm bathroom a few months ago).

I don't, because they're against teh Lawz0rz in St. Louis city, where I live. I'm about fifteen minutes from 3 million pounds of celebratory explosives, so I suppose if I wanted to, I could.

I'm a fan of bottle rockets, though

Caution: Do not try this at home
When I was a kid, I had a friend who lived out in the country but had a very flat, smooth, paved driveway that was about half a mile long. We'd strap some bottle rockets onto hotwheels cars (or larger, if we could find them), and arrange them with staggered fuses. If we did it right, and the fuses didn't touch at the wrong places, and they were well-timed (which modern fireworks fuses aren't, which is why so many kids lose their hands to fireworks these days) we'd get a car to travel the length of the driveway with 6 or 7 of those buggers. Sometimes, of course, the first blast would knock the car off its wheels, which was always fun.

Once we coated a car in lighter fluid and sent it on its way with just one rocket. It was pretty cool till it set the lawn on fire.

Maybe even then, too. After we put it out, of course.

None, cause they're not allowed inside the city limits here.

Heh: bottle rockets+dorms=bad. We had someone punch a hole through the roof of one of the freshman dorms my first year at college. Boy did they get in trouble. Scared the rest of us in the area to death, with the sound it made going off and through the roof...good thing they were on the top floor! Luckily no one got hurt...

same here...only I live in South County.

but I'll be in Rolla this year...where fireworks ARE legal...and between me and the guys we can expect around 400 bucks in fireworks...which will either be used to blow up things or eachother lol.

(fyi: rolla has the only explosives engineering program in the midwest. there are only 3 in the US and the others are out west...therefor we actually know how to sucessfully blow things up...safely...if we choose lol.)

I don't. They suck.

NZ has been cracking down on fireworks to the point they suck. Thus I only buy sparklers. A few thousand of them...to make perfectly harmless flare pillars.

Well, I technically cannot set off fireworks within city limits, but I live in the suburbs outside city limits...

Hmm...last year my friend got the idea of setting steel wool on fire and swinging it around while it was attached to a wire. It actually looks pretty cool. It's an alternative to fireworks :D

I don't. We don't really have cause for them.. plus it's illegal here in Victoria. That's why everyone goes to Canberra for them ;)

I don't buy any. I just watch them from other people's gardens ^^ It saves me money and I can still have fun watching them. Here though, people buy fireworks to compete with their neighbours. Whoever has the best ones think that they are something special...

Fortunately, this won't happen til November 1st until November 10th. Guy Fawkes night is the 5th but everyone always has to let fireworks off a few days before and a few days after. For some reason.

We can only do certain fireworks in our state. Anything that explodes (like really big) or anything that shoots way into the air is against the law. But we usually watch the big shows, and spend a few bucks on fireworks.

Admittedly... roman candles.

I'm all about the roman candles. And quite possibly... Roman Candle duels. BUT that was when I was over 18, and of course over the legal drinking age in my province.

Ho hum... roman candles.

Oh. Fireworks + Horses = very very bad.

All of this oddly relates into one fun camp related night.
