Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I have (possibly stupidly) volunteered to make fancy dress costumes for the tutors for a party next weekend, and i was wondering if you guys could help me. I shall be making prisoner costumes, and people wanted the ones with the arrows on, but unless i can find an image to work from i'm not going to be able to do that, and so far on google images i've only found images of stripey and orange prisoner suits.
So yeah, if anyone could find me an image of a stereotypical prisoner wearing one of those suits with arrows i will be eternally grateful!
Personally, i still dont think that prisoners was the best thing - we had to come up with something related to pirates but not pirates so people know we're the tutors - my immediate suggestion was ninjas - and about half the room immediately thought it was amazing, and the other half looked at me confused as to why i'd suggest ninjas. unfortunately it came to a vote and ninjas didnt win

Britain
In Britain, prison uniforms formerly consisted of a white jacket, trousers and pillbox hat, all stamped with the broad arrow to denote crown property.
according to wikipedia.
it does not, unfortunately, provide pictures.

Couldn't you make a template for the arrows, follow a plain normal jumpsuit pattern and then sew the arrows on?
Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:31 pm
weeeell if you want to do that....
here you go.
It's called a Pheon. It's the arrow that was used
oh, and here's the reason you can't find an image...
"the arrows on prisoners' uniforms (notably transportees to British penal colonies such as Australia)"
AKA a long time ago
-EDIT-
and you could perhaps make them look sorta like this? ( i think it looks cool)
it's an australian prison uniform, according to the subtext.

i dont need an actual picture of someone, just a picture of the costume or whatever. i was planning on making a normal costume, but i cant add the arrows without some kind of idea of how they are placed etc on the costume.
and sign_driven, your second picture isnt showing up for me

really? 0.o
*can see it just fine*
uhm i'll post the link then?
and there aren't even pictures of the costume that i can find, and i'm DARN good at finding things online.

"all stamped with the broad arrow to denote crown property."
sounds to me like it wasn't a pattern, but more of an emblem. So perhaps a small arrow on the breast pocket?

teehee. yeah, thats the kind i was thinking of. edit: the first one
i just need to decide which direction the arrows should go now and how big they should be.
i was planning on just getting pain white material and painting it on with fabric paint.

I think I typed something like "prisoner broad arrow uniform" into Google Images, and it came up (the real one). It was off of an educational site, like a museum.
