Dutch Gym to Introduce 'Naked Sunday'

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Self-conscious about what you wear while working out? A Dutch gym plans to introduce "Naked Sunday" for people who like to huff and puff in the buff.

Patrick de Man, owner of Fitworld gym in the town of Heteren, said he got the idea in part from two of his customers who are avid nudists.

"I heard that some other gyms are offering courses on 'pole-dancing' as a sport, so I thought: Why not bring something new to the market?" de Man said.

He said the response had been overwhelming _ positive and negative.

The 70,000-member Dutch Federation of Naturists was curious to see if Fitworld's plan would work, spokesman Bernd Huiser said.

"We recently conducted a large survey among our members, and most prefer to exercise with their clothes on," he said. "The most popular activities (for nudists) are things you do outdoors, like walking on the beach, or swimming in a lake, or maybe gardening."

De Man said the first question Fitworld customers were asking was whether it would be sanitary.

Nude exercisers would be required to put towels down on weight machines and to use disposable seat covers while riding bikes. All machines would be cleaned and disinfected afterward. "We clean them every day anyway," he said.

The first "Naked Sunday" is scheduled for March 4.

How funny is that. Personally, I wouldn't go to a gym that has one of those days lol.

OMG, all sorts of sagging and flabby things flapping in the breeze. Kym, I had planned on eating dinner just now, but just the thought has made me lose my appetite.

I'm in two minds really.
The first one says; "... Ooookay, aslong as I'm not forced there..."
The second tends to agree with the first, but is a little more violent in his objections.

uhhhh. Well. At first I was thinking "well whatever, lots of attractive and fit 20-somethings", and then reality kicked in and I suddenly had a mental image of lots of old people working out in the nude and now I am mentally scarred and must go and find bleach to scrub my brain with. D:

Regarding outside nudist activities:

I wouldn't be surprised if some couples did also do it during the winter whilst they are skiing. (Think Mrs and Mr Brinks from Angela Anaconda)

Also when it is going to be hot in the summer they are going to need to make sure that they use sun cream all over their bodies.

If I said I wouldn't ever want to go there, I'd be lying. Sounds fun.

Oh, old people aren't the only ones flabby. At least where I live. Lots of jiggly cellulite and overhanging guts on young people that I would care not to have to look at while working out. Although I guess looking at someone worse off than you would be quite an incentive to work out even more.

And just a comment, skiing while nude??? Ouch. Those tender bits could easily get frostbite.

Actually. you can ski at about -2 degrees C. Thats pretty warm. You wouldn't get frost bite. I've snowboarded wearing only boxers once.

Have you ever noticed that nudists, or those at nude beaches always do seem to be the scary old "flapping and flabbing" people.

Heheh, the yoga classes would be funny

I think you'll find that the gym will be quite empty on Nude Day. Either people that are out of shape will be too self conscious, or the men who are in suspiciously good shape will be VERY self conscious of the effects of their steroid use.

I'm tempted to recant some stories from "shower time" after cross country practice, but I won't.

And here I thought Dutch people were crazy...

I don't know about the naked gym idea.. doing nudist activities isn't that bad I guess (and by that I mean that it isn't as crazy yet as the things Japanese people come up with :P), but as he mentioned about hygiene, people will use the same machines that others have been using over and over; and people will get sweaty. Without clothes on, the towel will have to absorb more moist. And a towel can only absorb so much.. *shivers*
