More Winter Misery Moves Across Nation

Sat Jan 20, 2007 8:15 pm

MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Okla. Gov. Brad Henry is asking for a major federal disaster declaration for areas hard hit by the recent ice and snow.

Parts of Oklahoma and Missouri are being told they could get half a foot of snow by Sunday.

More than 170,000 homes and businesses in the two states still don't have electricity after the last storm.

At least 70 deaths, nationwide, are blamed on the bad weather.

In Texas, the wintry weather due Friday is expected to be less severe than the pelting of snow and freezing rain that paralyzed much of the state over the past week.

San Antonio, Austin and Houston should avoid a repeat of this week's icy conditions.

People on the streets of El Paso, on the Mexican border, are bundled-up tight against the cold and the biting winds. At nearby Fort Bliss, all non-essential personnel were sent home this morning.

Freezing weather also is expected in northern parts of the state, including Dallas.

We're gonna get hit by that too. All the weather people here are saying it's gonna be majour -- and have been for the past few days now.
We'll probably be heading to my sister's house if we lose power...will take pictures. XD

We got snow and freezing rain here in Toronto for the week, and it's been frigid since then.

We had snow and ice and all sorts of stuff from Tuesday last week till it melted (finally) a couple of days ago. It's still REALLY cold though.

The sound of ice falling from trees after several days of the area being completely covered... is indescribable.

Glad it's over.

Edit: Well, not over. But the ice is.

Man, I've been watching the rest of the country get blasted by snow in the past few weeks, and I just wish my state could take some of the extra off of your hands. ;)

I hope everyone gets power back soon!

Pudding, same here. I live just outside of Chicago and we've gotten hardly any snow this season. And I miss it.

After months and months of wind, cold, rain, and snow (bad in Vancouver standards, not exactly so for the rest of Canada), we're finally getting a reprieve here in the west, right when the east is starting to experience their winter. I can't remember the last sunny above-freezing day until today.

Hope everyone's fine though!

Yeah, I'm surprised to hear that everyone else has it so badly. It usually snows here rather severely, and other than our initial snow (2 feet), we had snow last night, but that's maybe an inch or two. It's hard to believe that places like Texas are getting snow while we're having rather tame weather.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is supposed to avoid the next blast too, the coldest it's supposed to get in the next two weeks is like 42 F.

I'm glad it's over. I like the cold, but not when it's freezing and everything has been wet.

Speaking of ice on trees, a couple days ago I was walking back to my residence hall from the cafeteria and it was eerie, because no one was around and the trees (which were covered in ice) swaying in the wind made a freaky sound.

We've got to have snow and really cold weather over here too and I live in England. Guess it's just that time of year. January is usually really bad weather-wise.

Sun Jan 21, 2007 10:55 pm

I wish Southern England had snow. We last had snow about three years ago, at night, and it'd all gone by the morning. We very rarely get snow here. It makes me sad to see everyone else complaining about amount of snow, when we only seem to get it once every five years.

I hope the storms come my way. We've only just now started to get some winter weather. And finals are over with, so snow days are good :P

I have no school tomorrow because of a teeeny bit of ice and a quarter inch of snow. Yay south!

Mon Jan 22, 2007 12:04 am

I didn't want it to snow for the next two weeks, and it freaking snowed today, and still is. >_<

I need to be able to review in school for my midterms tomorrow and on Tuesday! My midterms start on Wednesday, and if any of the days they're on are canceled due to snow, then I have to double up- aside from Wednesday, I only have one exam on both Thursday and Friday- if there's snow, I have to take two on one day. D:

And then next week I don't want it to snow because that would be a wasted snow day- I don't have school next week anyway, because it's audition week at my school.

*end rant*

No snow here. Just gross cold rain and cold and wind and cold. And cold. *pout*
