Should I cut my hair?

Mon Jan 08, 2007 4:57 am

Lately I've been kind of considering cutting my hair. I'm hesitant to though, since I haven't cut it in 4 1/2 years. So I thought I'd get some other opinions.

So anyway, I like my hair. I'm kind of proud of it I guess. But lately it's been a pain in the butt. It gets tangled really easily is the biggest problem. It also just gets in the way in general some, but that's not as bad as the tangling thing. It'd be kinda nice to not have to deal with it. And be able to take a shower in under a half an hour.

If I did get it cut, I think I'd get it short short. Like, no more than an inch or two past my ears I think. I've got no experience with short haircuts though, so I'm not sure what kind of cut I should get, assuming I do get one. Also, how do bangs work with short hair? I really hate normal just straight down bangs, but I'm not sure how they work if they're too short to keep in a ponytail/tucked behind ears. And keeping my hair out of my eyes could be a problem for skating.

So yeah. Advice/opinions would be much appriciated.

And for reference, here are some pictures of my hair now, the ways I wear it most(ponytail almost all the time, down occasionally, in a braid if I'm skiing or something and need to keep it from tangling so much). Yeah... a lot of them. (And ignore the dorky smile. I'm not photogenic at all)
(also keep in mind that it's not normally this neat, this was just after brushing/braiding/whatever)

Wow its so long :O

I think its pretty (especially the color! :D). But if you did get it shorter, I think it would look really kewl cut to around your shoulders too with like sideswept bangs. You could have your bangs like that if you got your hair cut super short, cause they'd be long enough to go behind your ear or if you had a headband. Just don't dye it because I love the color! :P

Wow, long hair! I really like long hair, so I say keep it long, but cut it to like the middle of your rib cage. I think that would work really well with you :)

You look beautiful Pippy.

If anyone asked me what kind of hair I prefer girls to have, I would honestly say that it has to be anything in any color because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Because of that I would have to say that in all honestly that you should trust you instincts and go for whatever you feel is right for you.

You should donate it to Locks of Love. It'd be great! And get something really cool and dramatic! :D

If you get it cut shorter than your shoulders, it's a real pain to grow again. Personally, I'd get it cut at the shortest a bit longer than your shoulders, with some long layers, maybe have the front cut a bit shorter to frame your face? It's a pretty basic cut, but it looks nice on most people and is easy to deal with. =P

If you suddenly cut it short, you would get neck cramps where you can't help but look down due to the muscles in your neck having developed to hold all that hair

...

lies...

Anyway, your hair is too long to cut (I want long hair), if I were you I wouldn't cut it unless I got paid to :P

If you're going to get your hair cut, I suggest first going for a less drastic change. Have a few inches cut off, and if you don't like it quite that long, repeat that until you're happy with it. You may find yourself liking shorter, but still long or medium-length hair, or you might end up loving a pixie cut.

I had hair down to the small of my back until September of last year, when I had it cut to a little above mid-back length. I wasn't quite happy with that, so after a few months I had it cut a few more inches, but alas, I hated that (it was a huge shock for me, having my hair that short, when I'd had it long for years), so I'm growing it until I do like it. :P

...Uh, no. Locks of Love? Not as great as you think. The vast majority of the hair they recieve is SOLD. And as for the kids who get wigs? They don't always get them for free, as LoL only donates wigs to children they consider to be finacially disadvantaged.

And as for all the cancer patients and such you usually see on TV getting wigs made from some kind person's hair... The organization that made that wig is probably not LoL. From LoL's website:

Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.

AKA cancer patients (which are usually the kids you always hear about wanting wigs and such) are usually considered ineligible by LoL, as their loss of hair is temporary and will grow back. It's great that people with alopecia are recognized, but you usually don't hear about them, as the public's attention is focused more on young cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

Read more here, here, and here.

While I fully support the idea of donating your hair for a good cause if you want to, I advise that if you do so, look into other charities that make donated hair into wigs for children, instead of Locks of Love.

...And sorry for turning your thread into a ranting place for me, pipsqueeek. :P I just wish people were more aware of the hard facts about LoL before getting their hair chopped off for it.

I guess it is inconvenient to have long hair, but man, long hair is HOT! :P If you do decide to cut it, at least keep it 'regular' long, short hair doesn't suit women (it can look good, but mostly it doesn't).

A comedian once made a joke about it:

Why are guys afraid to commit?

Because when they get married, their women cut off their hair immediately

I say don't cut it short because there's a large chance you'll regret it. If you're really bored with your hair, why not get a restyle? Layers and a fringe (bangs) make a huge difference to how your hair looks.

Ohhhhhhh..... Yea that is sad to learn.... Thanks for telling me! :D Well then Pips, donate it to a good foundation lol! I would say to go with an awesome drastic makeover like on America's Next Top Model! Like either go blonde, or really dark, you're pretty no matter what :D

Hair left alone is dull. Get it cut; if you don't like it, you can always get extensions or something.

Compromise: Make a wig out the hair cut off.
