Would sombody PLEASE explain to me how CLAM chowder can proportianly have more POTATOES then clam and soup? >_< My mom complains I don't eat the potatoes in my CC, but thats not true...the ones I leave are like a third of what was in the bowl! I just get sick of eating them...all in favor of sending petitions to soup compenies that make clam chowder to put more clam and less potatoes, say "aye!"

I've never had actually had clam chowder. @___@ Probably because I don't like clams and "chowder" (whatever that is) doesn't sound too appetizing either.
But I didn't even know there were potatoes in it. Heh, heh.

*gasps* You no like clamys? SHAME *wags finger*
Anywaaays...I'm not sure WHY it's called clam CHOWDER, I'm not sure what the chowder is really. The "broth" is a thick, creamy, milk-like substance-I've often put milk into my CC if it's to thick. I love the broth, I'd eat a whole bowl of it alone if I could!

Nah, I don't like any type of seafood. X____X
And according to dictionary.com choweder is...
A thick soup containing fish or shellfish, especially clams, and vegetables, such as potatoes and onions, in a milk or tomato base.
Well. So it does have potatoes. *nods*

Chowder originated in France, but was quickly adopted in the US. Its consumption is apparently prevalent on the east coast.
Chowders are thick, creamy fish based soups. There are many variations on the dish, with a variety of fishes used, but they all contain potatoes. There are probably more potatoes than fish because of the reletive costs of the ingredients.
Rick Stein made some on TV earlier.

I love clam chowder! I just don't eat the clams.
So I guess I never notice the problem with the potatoes, because I love potatoes in chowder. I suppose I just like essence of clam, haha.
