Twist: Blog becomes so popular that they make a disjointed movie out of it. I mean, she gets horrible food poising from bad clams.
Better Twist: The book was written by cannibals

Cliche: Meanest, roughest [insert sport here] player has had a rough game. Small child makes him smile so he gives the child a gift.

Twist: Player then gets mistaken for pedophile and is chased through the streets of town.

Cliche: Students have to work hard on their class's idea for the school festival. (in every single school-based manga ever...)

I don't go in much for slice-of-life manga (other than Bakuman, because the T.O. team is just that awesome), so this is kind of a shot in the dark, but...

Twist: The version they end up going with turns out to make the public space they're using into an ideal spot for an ambush.

Cliche: A back-and-forth insult volley ends in a passionate kiss.

Twist: A passionate kiss ends in a back-and-forth insult volley.

Cliche: An Irishman is a fun-loving, affable drunkard.

Twist: In fact, all the drunkards are fun-loving and affable. The screwed-up Aesop at the end is that alcoholism isn't actually a problem.

Cliche: Saintly, slight young woman is dying of consumption, and though it's strongly telegraphed, the other characters' guts are wrenched.

(The most memorable published twist on this one was the short story where the telegraphed yet gut-wrenching revelation was that no one is dying of consumption, and the doctor calling on the supposed consumptive woman is hence wasting valuable time. As it's been done, I think it fair enough to mention it.)

Twist: Horribly mean young woman is dying of consumption and everyone is secretly glad about it.

Cliche: Girl just wants to live her dream, but her dad expects her to live his dream instead (*looking at you, most modern Disney princesses...*).

Twist: Girl shouts at dad and slams her fist down on the table... Accidentally hitting the red button on the control board, instantly blowing up the entire castle and all of its occupants, including dad and the girl. The End.*

Cliche: Hero is trapped in a room that is surrounded by the bad guys... But there is a huge air vent in the wall that is big enough to crawl through. Even better, grill covering the vent is not actually attached to the wall and can easily be removed with no tools (or whatever dinky tool is in the room, like a staple remover).

*Following Tharkun's vibe ;)

Twist: The vent was actually a trap, and the hero immediately hits the red button hidden in the vent, instantly blowing up himself and the princess he was trying to rescue. The End.

Cliche: Boy teases girl mercilessly. Girl is annoyed, but suddenly realizes she loves annoying boy after all.
