Yes, you guys won. (Although not how I intended for you to win.
)
Yay, challenge Synopsis!!
Today, I wondered if I'd be able to do the challenge, but we eventually had 4 people, so it worked out fine.
o_0 showed up first, about 15 minutes before 6. Noelle showed up shortly after 6, Kugetsu about 6:15, and rachel at about 6:25.
The team was shown the above coded sentence, and told that it was a sentence taken from somewhere off of PPT. (NOT the forums) They had 30 minutes to de-code the phrase then find where it was from and who wrote it.
After staring at the sentence for a few minutes, the players began to discuss what kind of code it might be. They noticed that there was one word that stood alone, the seventh word. Since it was alone, it had to be either A or I.
Noelle correctly guessed that it was a type of graph code, but since no one else picked up on it the team persued other possibilities. Here's the graph code I used, in case anyone was wondering:
~1 2 3 4 5
1 A B C D E
2 F G H I J
3 K L M N O
4 P Q R S T
5 U V W X Y
As you can see, the letter A is 1 down 1 across, making the number 11.
If the team had picked up on it, they might have figured out the other numbers, and therefore the phrase, but when it got down to 10 minutes left, o_0 pursued....... other strategies.
Knowing that I said the sentence was from somewhere on PPT, and that they could guess as much as they wanted, o_0 began to randomly guess articles in the hopes that he might find the right one. He eventually did, as the sentence is "It is impossible to hack into a program!" from the article "What they don't want you to know about scams" written by Fiddleysquat. Even though they didn't figure out the code, all I had required was the correct place/author of the sentence, and the team therefore earned 10k, bringing the total up to
152k. Well done.
I will have the next quiz up soon, and we will have our next execution. Just a reminder, cap is exempt, so someone else will have to leave.
