Names in Japanese and Arabic (Request board)

Sun Sep 17, 2006 1:53 pm

I was thinking it would be nice if there was a place for people who wants their names in Japanese, or different languages.

I can do Hiragana and Katakana right away. Kanji may take a little time.

From the way things are pronounced in Japanese, the pronounciation may change a little bit.

-Kanji-
It would be nice if you have in mind what kind of...er...name you'd like.
My friend's helping out with the kanji part.
どうぞよろしく!

How's about Ryan Riverside in 'all of the above'?

And I can translate names into Oovrendockx, but it would have to be the Anglicized version.

Top line is written out by hand with ickle bits of grammar.

Beneath that is the right-to left phonetics of each letter. (There is no V in arabic, F is usually used instead; "Dafid Beckham")

Then we have the phonetic way of sayin it in arabic - capital letters are the actual letters, smal vowels are the ickle bits of grammar that I don't know the name of.

Finaly we have the typed version of your name without the ickle bits of grammar.

right for pipsqueek? I'm not sure if I got the s-like one right or if/how the k-like ones are supposed to connect...

and curse there being no p in arabic. bibsqueeek just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Hikaru, Noo, could I PM both of you to get my real name in Arabic and either Katakana or Hiragana? I think I have part of my name in Katakana, but I am not sure because of some of the sounds.

Feel free to do my screenname in whatever style too. (If possible, translate each part sky, net, and main before writing them out :D:D)

Could someone put up the arabic alphabet? I would like to understand why my name looks like it does. I think I have it pretty well figured out, but I would like the alphabet, even if in PM.

That would be read "B EE B S K A W EE K A" which is kinda a more personal affectionate way of saying Bibsqueak (Kinda like in russian when -chka is added)

Dunno, Sena(my friend who's helping out) is in the middle of saying "Hunh?"
There's not many names with 'nu' in it so it might end up strange. Real strange.

Hiragana →らいあん りばーさいど
Katakana →ライアン リバーサイド rahian ribahsaido
Is just the first name ok for Kanji?

That's fine, although I do want to ask: What are Katakana, Hiragana, and Kanji?

Note: I have spent the last few hours learning how to write Arabic. I find it fascinating. I love it.

Noo→濡羽 The second one means feather. The first I'm not quite sure.

Ryan→1.雷闇、 2.来杏
1.'s first kanji means thunder. Second one is darkness. 2.'s first means 'come'. Second is 'apricot'? Feel free to mix them. (Frist is 'rai', second is 'an')

The Japanese language was originally all kanji; that comes from the connection with China. Then there was some kind of discrimination, you know the boy/girl thing, and I think that women weren't allowed to use kanji so they made up hiragana. Katakana comes from kanji and hiragana comes from katakana.
Hiragana and kanji are used for regular Japanese, katakana is used for non Japanese words.

Someone tell me if I got it wrong

Not correcting you, but one thing I heard about Hiragana and Katakana was that they were developed by imperial court women that wanted to write. Both were developed separately. The first novels in the world were written by women in the emperor's court in Hiragana and Katakana!

Someone tell me if I got it wrong too

Well, won't be using my username. :P

Let's see...

Timothy Bartlett

In all of the above, if my name's somehow doable (oh, and Tim's fine if Timothy causes too much trouble.). =P
