Tharkun Wants a Set! (Top prize 50,000 NP) (Closed)

Mon Sep 12, 2005 11:34 pm

Yes, that's right. I have decided to bow to the masses and get a set. Those cryptic things I've been putting in my sig periodically I can just post on the Harry Potter thread, along with an actual EXPLANATION.

Anyway.

Prizes
First Place - 50,000 NP and my entire stash of snowballs and battlecards
Second Place - 25,000 NP
Third Place - 10,000 NP

Guidelines
1. It must leave room for people to believe that I am female. No, really, I am.

2. Harry Potter is good, but not essential. I am very open to Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, Phantom of the Opera, Star Wars (prequels or classics), Disney movies dating from Little Mermaid to Lion King, Dune, Ender's Game, and Eragon (keeping in mind that I haven't read Eldest yet). I'm even open to the random-anime-girl bit that seems to be the trend hereabouts.

3. Colors can be anything, as long as they aren't pastel or bright, cheery yellows and pinks. However, I dislike the techno-grid.

4. Good quotes to use:

We must not sink beneath our anguish... but battle on.

It's hard to wring your hands while you're rolling up your sleeves.

What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does.

Calves are easily bound and slaughtered, never knowing the reason why
But all those who cherish freedom, like the swallow, must learn to fly.

There are things worth dying for!

Recieve what cheer you may; the night is long that never finds the day.

I have no words - my voice is in my sword, thou bloodier tyrant than terms can give thee out.

What are the mem'ries we value so highly, that we keep alive in that flame?
What's the commitment to those who have died, that we cry out they've not died in vain?
We have come this far, always believing that justice will somehow prevail
This is our burden, this is our promise, and THIS is why we will not fail!

(You can excerpt the above, obviously.)

Every man dies - not every man really lives.

If a quote evokes courage or freedom, you can't go too far wrong.

Those are the basic guidelines - let's see what you have!

EDIT: Oh, yes, it closes on October 1 and judges on October 15.

first attempt ... having a hard time finding just the right subtext for a HP set I'm working on. Look ma, no grids! ;)

Stampsyne! You made that cute ickle Gimli animation for me? And you actually pinpointed another one of my favorite quotes that I just couldn't think of, too.

Excellent use of subtext, Everconfused. Daniel Radcliffe leaves open the possiblity that I'm female, though Mel Gibson doesn't, particularly, but you know what? That was a stupid rule.

Cleo, this used to be Eo's favorite scene in the history of literature, before she became obsessed with Phantom of the Opera. Awesome set, especially with the use of transparency. If "You look upon a woman" fits, you don't need to spoil the book for the great unwashed, so try. ^^

OK, trying again :) Glad you liked the way I did the subtext on the HP set - after I'd found that pic of him, had a few pics of Hogwarts so used one as a layer, and did the background shading (day into night) and thought about all he's been through I just thought it fit ... plus I really like that quote! Didn't think about the rule you have when I made the Braveheart set (but I do understand it!). So, thought about other strong women, then saw Star Wars on your list.

I disliked the movie portrayal. I really think it stole away her valor. I decided to do a quote about the desired valor, as well as honor your request.

Nice Marvel-credits look, Optimus! Not familiar with Star Wars comics, but it really conveys the sort of thing I want conveyed.

Those colors are far from pastel, Eidolon. It's just those flowers that make it look that way. Replace the flowers and it'll be great. And if you notice, Cleo's sigs have very light colors, but I haven't set her to task for it, because it's a pastel mood that I don't want. (Unicorns don't convey a pastel mood until they look like something Lisa Frank would do. The Neopet is a good borderline.)

Jade, thanks - that's the coolest anime-child I've seen... granted, my scope of anime is somewhat limited. What is the name of that font you used for my name? It's wicked.

And Cleo, totally. They make Eowyn more than half Ophelia over Aragorn, have her go into battle for Aragorn, and then they don't give her the glory she deserves for her deed. I mean, they cut to another scene midway through. *hairball noise*
