Strike Policy

These forums operate a system to dissuade members from abusing the forums and/or each other. Abuse can take many forms and some of us have had first hand experience of this.

The Moderators of this forum have been empowered with the ability to award 'strike' points to members who don't follow the Terms & Conditions of the forum and any other general etiquette expected when taking part in this Community.

Therefore, if members fail to heed the Terms & Conditions of the forum, as we have seen in the past, or ignore requests from Moderators, they can expect to be jumped on.

The Moderators do not have to tell you if you have been awarded a 'strike', but they will regularly report any abuse of the Forum to the Administrators who will take action against repeat offenders.

Incase you're wondering just what might await you if you don't abide by the Terms & Conditions, then there is a simple guide below.

One strike will bring your future actions under close scrutiny by the Moderating team.

Two strikes will interest the Administrators, who will then pay special attention to you, and not in a good way.

If you manage to get three strikes, then you will find yourself banned from the forum for a set amount of time. This amount of time will depend on what you have done to earn those strikes in the first place.

Each strike thereafter, up to a maximum of six strikes will get you banned, again for a certain length of time to be determined by the Administrator dealing with you. When you reach six strikes, you're history. No discussion, no argument. The Administrator's decision is final.

Serious offences against the Forum or other users will result in an immediate ban.

All strikes will be wiped at the end of every month, apart from those with six strikes who will be permanently banned from the forums. The reasons for the strikes being awarded will be kept on file for future reference.

The vast majority of members will never get a strike as they conduct themselves perfectly respectably on the forum. The odd double post or less than three word response is not going to get you a strike. You will get a polite reminder from the Mods that you may want to carefully consider for next time, but if you respond badly to that advice, then they are perfectly within their rights to award you with a strike because of it.

We understand that people who are new to the board may make mistakes without realising it, so minor offences for those that have been here for a week or less will also be given the benefit of the doubt.

Welcome to PPT's Role Play board! Some of you may have other role play experience but it would be appreciated if you still read through these rules. There are certain terms we use to avoid confusion with other abbreviations used within PPT itself.

All forum rules apply. That includes spamming, flaming and backseat modding. (Backseat modding is doing a moderator's job by telling a member they have double posted, spammed, etc. Please contact a moderator if you see forum rules being broken - that is what we are here for.)

Do not remove a moderator's edits or reply to them with your own edit. If you think your post was unfairly edited, bring it to a moderator through PM. Doing anything to a moderator's edit will earn you an automatic strike. A list of the RP moderators can be found at the top of this page, or below:

Before joining a role play, read the first post. Anyone found disregarding the rules set by the Game Creator (GC) will be dealt with by the moderators. If a role play is closed, it should say [Closed] in the title. If it does not mention whether it is closed or not, it will be presumed to be open. GCs are responsible for letting people know if a role play is open or closed.

If role plays are already a few pages long, double check with the GC if you can join and/or give notice that you will be entering the story, rather than leaping straight in. It isn't always welcomed with other players to have a new player suddenly take part without warning. Please only sign up for an RP if you know you are going to participate.

The GC is in charge of the RP and sets the storyline and major scene changes. Only the GC is allowed to have minor power-hogging (PHing) or god-modding when it is necessary to move the story along. That is to say "everyone" in the general sense, not a character in specific or to give any details about the other players' characters' emotions or actions. If unsure of how much that is, look at some role plays to find examples or ask around.

If for some reason the GC wants to kick out a player in his or her role play, the GC must contact a role play moderator and explain the situation in detail. The moderators are the only ones allowed to give permission for someone to be removed from a role play if they see fit. In this situation the involved moderator will attempt to get the story from as many different points of views as possible before allowing or disallowing a GC to remove a player. Anyone found doing this without previously contacting a moderator will be dealt with seriously. (If a moderator is in an involved role play, please contact an uninvolved one to minimise biased judgment.)

Do not Power Hog. Power-hogging is commonly known as god-modding. It is to take control over another character or to inflict physical, mental or emotional damage to another player's character. Your character can attack another character but you are not allowed to decide what damage has been inflicted, if any; it is the other player's decision of how to react to the attack. If you are actually reading these rules, please PM Pudding with the word "foomonkeh".

Perfect or too-powerful characters will be dealt with. There isn't a single human on earth who is perfect. Characters need to have flaws as well. Too powerful characters often become power-hoggers and perfect characters become an annoyance to other players. When writing as your character, or In Character (IC), try to put depth to the character by giving him or her a past and by writing in a manner suited to the character.

Please make your posts as coherent as possible. We understand that English is not everyone's first language, but we do stress the importance of making readable posts for others. A quick spelling and grammar check on Microsoft Word can work wonders. Writing in past tense and in third person are usually used on these boards for In Character role play.

Out of character comments where you are writing as yourself (OOC) should be put in brackets such as [this] or ((this)). These two examples are the most commonly used ones within PPT although you are welcome to use what you are used to as long as there is a clear differentiation between your IC and OOC writing.

The minimum post length is 3 sentences of In Character Role Playing or 3 words of OOC. To quote White_Wolf: "The role playing moderators are keeping a list, and checking it twice. Breaking the rules here certainly does have a price. Breaking the three sentence rule, or other minor rules will get one’s screen name on our list. Every offence after that will get another mark by one’s name to exist. After so many marks one will be given a strike, which I think you really will dislike. So RPers I advise you to be good, as the moderators are watching you from behind their hood." You may or may not be contacted by a moderator after receiving a mark, which is up to the moderator's judgment.

Cybering is strictly not allowed. Romance should be kept to a maximum of a discreet kiss and courting. Please do not make any subtle references whatsoever as all passages with romance in them will be taken in the worst possible context ever.

If you are leaving a role play permanently, it is common courtesy to inform your GC. If you are leaving temporarily, you should also let your GC know. You may ask a player to "take care" of your character, where they will play your character in the way they think you would.

NEW: Role plays inactive for three weeks will be locked.

Role plays may be split at 50. If you see a role play that is larger than this, it may be one of the role plays the moderators are using to find out the largest splitting limit.

It is advised to save your role plays or posts onto a Word document (or similar) if you don't want to lose them. This is a possibility you must never forget if you value your posts.
