Elily looked up at Iaran, putting down the small piece of toast she had left. Her eyes grew a little brighter, as she spoke.
'Didn't you hear? They're going to be announced right after breakfast! Let's cast our bets and see who made it!' Elily's mood was getting better by the moment. She wanted to speak some more, but was cut off by a high-pitched voice which made her flinched.
'Well, well, well. Didn't you hear? Only one student from each job made it!'
Elily narrowed her eyes. None other than Dila. Dila was a tall, rather pretty girl (and that made her popular with the guys) with long, black wavy hair which she let down. She was a gunner, and always found some reason to compete with Elily. Elily knew she was nowhere near as pretty, or probably as powerful as Dila, so she tried to keep out of Dila's way as much as possible.
Dila was one of the candidates who made it to the final test, with time to spare. She bragged and boasted all week that the final test was no hard task, and that she would probably get in. Elily knew that she probably had no chance with Dila in the running. But that wasn't going to stop her from getting annoyed that Dila was putting her down.
'One student from every job!' Dila repeated. 'And
that's not going to be you!' she jabbed her finger in Elily's direction.
'Who'd expect you'd have a chance, dear, when you barely made it out of the final test ALIVE?!' she jeered on. Elily's violet eyes flamed.
'I DO know, and I admit that I probably didn't get through...but who's to think you got in? Leave. Me. Alone.' Two silver guns pointed into Dila's face.
Dila's confident smile faltered, as her smug look vanished. She turned away, trying to regain what was left of her ego.
'We'll see. After breakfast,
I'll be the one having the last laugh." With that, Dila stalked off, leaving Elily in her seat, blinking in a blur. She lowered her guns. Had she been too rough? Too harsh?
Elily lowered her gaze and stuffed her toast into her mouth, clearing her plate. She hated to be laughed at, and she knew that was what she would be facing after breakfast. Her hand groped for a napkin, and brought it up to her lips, wiping any toast crumbs away neatly.
[It's pronounced as Deeluh by the way.
