Kenniah - Sketch

Wed Oct 05, 2005 3:50 am

Hey. It's me again, after a few weeks of doing absolutely nothing. Anyway, I'm having to redo my entire human style, and out of all those doodlings came up with one thing that works. I'll be updating this thread after I colour it, but for now you get the sketch. C&C welcome, it has been ages since I've drawn humans.

Wow... that's really pretty. I love her clothes and wings especially! ^^

Out of curiosity, what was your old style?

::coughs:: Him. His clothes. ^^; Yeah, it's really hard to tell, I know, but he's a very girly man. Bishounen.

My old style... was a weird mash of anime, western, real-life and furre art. I had horrible anatomy and facial problems, and it was just... bleh.

Then when I got into university, I took a life drawing course for a semester. It changed my drawing for the better, but the faces were still... ugh. So I focused on dragons for a while (I'll probably post those later, after uni's over) and then started rebuilding my human style from scratch. It's quite manga-inspired, but still keeps what I learned from uni and other sources. I'm still building, though, so these are just little blocks to climb up on the way.

:o No kidding? I originally thought it was a dude, but then the hair convinced me otherwise!

Thanks, Req. It's nice to have a couple of regular people looking at my work... I usually have such a low opinion of it that I crawl out here looking for some reviews and ways I can improve... and generally don't get many. :cry:

I put some extra care into the clothes in this sketch, since usually they get poked into oblivion along with other detail... ^^;

His face says boy, but the ponytail (that is what I'm seeing, right?) makes me consider girl as well. In other words, fabulous job with the bishounen part.

The clothing is beautifully detailed. Although I'm trying to determine the semi-circle that is partially covering his right wing. I really can't tell if that's something on his back, supposed to be showing his wing at a different angle, or something else entirely.

His face is a tad short for my usual tastes (I tend to enjoy longer faces in manga-styles), but does not look bad. It just looks different from what I am accustomed to. The details of the face are very well done, although I think the left eye might be placed a little bit off of where it should be. There's something about it that looks a little misplaced, but it could just be there need to be some additional face details around the eyes to show their depth.

All in all though, I really love this drawing. You were always quite good, but it looks like you are truly growing in your style and abilities.

Oh, and sorry it took me so long to post this. ^^; Most pictures aren't showing up for me at work (where I'm doing most of my PPTing anymore), I think it's because of the slow Mac I'm being forced to use that I'm not familiar with (it's happening with more than just the Photobucket stuff). Then when I get home, the gallery of course doesn't actually show that there are any new messages, so I forget to look back to try to see the images that I couldn't see when I was at work. So on and so forth. ^_^;
